2002 Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 1.5 L
Winemaker's Notes In the glass our 2002 has a dark, inky-purple color, saturated to the edge. It has a pronounced aromatic bouquet of luxurious pure ripe fruit, cassis and earth and a diverse, complex and powerful flavor profile with ripe cassis, blackberry, and black cherry flavors supported by hints of tar and earth. Powerful yet silky tannins are balanced by a refreshing backbone of acidity which, combined with the wine's bold structure and rich flavors, infuse this Cabernet with plenty of power to age for a long while. The wine is elegant, showy and polished, with plenty of body and plush ripeness. We think you can enjoy the powerful, vibrant fruit now by opening a few bottles, and then wait a couple years for the concentrated, distinctive Montelena character to evolve before opening the rest.
"Already quite complex even at this young age, the 2002 shows remarkably detailed aromas of mocha, woodsmoke, spices and subtle vanilla atop a firm foundation of dark berry fruit." (96 Points) - Michael Franz, Wine Review Online
"Outstanding. Full-bodied, powerful, and rich, with high tannin as well as concentration." (95 points) - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
"Outstanding. Plush, broad and fine-grained; atypically sexy and showy for this wine." (>93 points) – Stephen Tanzer
